Over Hillyweird

Hillyweird was created to (re)build a community by resurrecting the local music and adjacent art scene of Hilversum by organizing accessible concerts, workshops and other activities to encourage and grow the local music community and connect it to the (inter)national music scene.

By doing this we've built a diverse and mostly young community of people who previously felt isolated and disconnected.

We are volunteer run with the vast majority of our volunteers being around 20 years old. We have hosted shows with artists from all over the world including the America's, Australia and Europe. Many local artists got their debut and subsequent shows with us, some of who are now playing major venues like Paradiso Amsterdam.

One of our guiding principles is accessibility in all possible ways. Entrance to our shows is donation based, enabling low income people, especially young people to get involved with the local music scene. Diversity is crucial to make everyone feel welcome. We are for instance very gender and age diverse resulting in a space where people feel safe.

It is also easy for local artist to perform on our stage, before they finish their third song one of us is probably already checking if they are ready for a show. Our venue is also open for other non-profit organizers who might struggle to find a place in the commercial market.

Besides music our activities also involve ao film, photography, graphic design and screen printing.

We are located at VONK in de wijk, Kleine Drift 41 Hilversum. (a 4 minute walk from the station)
