Geodienst - geospatial software & data solutions at the University of Groningen

Geodienst is the independent geospatial team within the University of Groningen. We build software platforms and turn complex spatial data into something people can actually use. We sit firmly on the R&D side of geospatial work. That means custom solutions to real problems, not one product stretched endlessly across every client - which is also where we differ from the commercial market. Our roots are in academic research support (GIS, spatial analysis, data management), but our work reaches well beyond that: we develop scientific platforms such as PAN (Portable Antiquities of the Netherlands), applied tools like RUG Maps for indoor navigation, and we help organisations get real value out of their geo data. What makes this work: we are part of the University of Groningen, with direct access to our Data Science team, the university's HPC cluster, and the full depth of academic expertise across the RUG. Few teams can combine that kind of computational and scientific firepower with hands-on software development. We are less polished than a commercial agency - and we are fine with that. What we deliver instead is well-engineered, durable solutions; our products and services are highly valued by the people and organisations who use them.
