Over FoodRoots Foundation

FoodRoots is team of students from Eindhoven University of Technology, HAS Den Bosch and Radboud University Nijmegen that is designing a technology which shows the impact of food products on sustainability. This is done through a digital platform where actors in the food supply chain provide data on the environmental (CO2, NOx, etc) and social (fair price, animal rights, etc) aspects of their role in the journey of the food product from farm to fridge. These data are combined into a final sustainability impact score which is printed on the food packaging. It is important that everyone can trust the neutrality and integrity of the impact score, which is why FoodRoots is an independent non-profit student team that stores the data publicly and decentralised in something called ‘The Tangle’, which is the next generation of blockchain. This total picture of the food impact makes it easy for people to make a fairer and more sustainable choice.
