Over Duchess Nederland - Ladies in Java

Welcome to Duchess Nederland!

Duchess is a global organization for women in Java technology, currently with 550 members in over 60 countries. Duchess provides a platform through which women who are interested in Java can connect with each other and get involved in the greater Java community. It aims to make the role of women and the individual women's contributions visible in the Java community and to teach the benefits of diversity in any team environment - whether corporate or open-source.

Duchess tries to create more visibility for women in Java by:

- Organizing events: https://www.meetup.com/Duchess-NL/

- Speaking at conferences. The more experienced speakers will take those Duchess members who are less confident about speaking with them as co-speakers. That way everyone can gain experience and maybe next time they will have the confidence to stand on stage by themselves.

- Organizing Devoxx4Kids events where children can develop computer games, program robots and also have an introduction to electronics. This way children (and parents!) can see by themselves that programming is not just for nerds.

- Several other activities like -- teaching at elementary schools -- teaching coding at the Codestarter event at NEMO -- SonicPi workshop for students at the Royal Conservatoire
