Over CUI Spotter

CUI Spotter is an innovative patent pending sensor for corrosion under insulation. One single sensing cable, installed under the thermal insulation, allows monitoring at least three hundred meters of line.

Sensors do not require permanently installed measuring instruments and therefore no batteries to be replaced and no wireless network. Measurements can be carried out every few years using a portable instrument.

Alternatively, it can be installed around heat exchanger shells, above-ground tanks or columns.

CUI Spotter is a coaxial cable permeable to water. The internal core wire corrodes faster than the pipeline because of its galvanic coupling with a more noble component.

Wherever water is present under the insulation, the internal core wire will corrode reaching a local interruption in a few months.

If tested periodically with a Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR on Wikipedia) instrument, the interruption can be pinpointed and corrosion under insulation can be detected and located. The cable can be locally repaired with a normal BNC connector, which will not affect further measurements.
