Compasense is about scaling smart by tackling the frictions that appear when companies move from growth to scale. We define it as the Freedom - Friction - Framework. The mess in the middle.

In the earliest stages freedom is often a core cultural pillar. Teams move quickly, take ownership, everyone knows each other and innovate without the constraints of formal processes.

However, as the company grows - hiring more employees, taking on investors, and dealing with larger clients - the need for operational sustainability, consistency in approach/ behaviours and risk management becomes more pressing.

This leads to the introduction of frameworks: policies, approvals, departments, and performance metrics. While necessary, these structures often create friction with the original startup ethos.

The transition often leads to a period of friction and frustration. The challenge for scale-ups is to introduce just enough structure to support growth while preserving the autonomy and creativity that fuel innovation.

Culture, which is often spontaneous and personality-driven in a startup, must evolve without becoming rigid or bureaucratic, and one of the central tensions in scale-ups is this balance between freedom and framework.
