Over Business Responsibility for Inequality (BRIL)

Together with climate change, extreme economic inequality within countries is the major driver of risk and opportunities in the 21st century. We are a new initiative that believes that the law can ensure that the private sector has a critical role to play in advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10 about reducing inequality.

Yet unlike the climate context, the economic inequality responsibilities and performance of businesses and investors are not well understood. There is a critical gap in evidence-based research and data. An important step towards addressing this gap is making action on extreme economic inequality concrete for businesses and ESG investors. In order to do so, we undertake rigorous research to identify relevant international norms and data to establish the economic inequality responsibilities and performance of business and investors.
