What makes a place truly meaningful? Not just the buildings or the public space, but what people can do, experience and build there. Places come alive when people can meet, take initiative, create something of their own and feel that they belong.

That is not a side issue. It shapes the health, the wellbeing and the everyday happiness of the people who will live there, and of the generations after them. And it is decided years before anyone moves in.

This is what drives BRAND The Urban Agency.

BRAND works at the intersection of people, culture and urban development, helping municipalities, developers, investors, housing associations and cultural organisations turn complex urban challenges into places that work for the people who use them.

Culture-led development, placetesting, place branding and Focus Labs are different ways of getting there. By bringing culture and local energy into the development process from the start. By testing ideas in real life rather than trying to predict everything on paper. And by uncovering and strengthening the identity of a place instead of inventing one for it.

But the ambition goes beyond individual places and projects.

Every project is also an opportunity to learn how better places are made: what works, what does not, and what needs to change. Those lessons feed into new methods and frameworks, writing, books, talks, teaching and debate.

So the work is twofold: meaningful places where people flourish, and new ways to make them.
